I have another which is 853 steel and had one which was Columbus. The Columbus was a little nicer but the geometry was wrong (Lemond) so it's gone. The 853 is pretty darn close to the better aluminums ie; it's not as smooth as the Bianchi one and, although it fits, it doesn't fit quite as well as the Bianchi. I find myself avoiding the bumps when I ride the bike which is 853.
Let me put it another way. On the Bianchi, I get the smoothest ride I've ever experienced and I crank by many of my friends with $5K+ bikes. Whatever it is; it works. I know it's not my chicken legs. :)
The Bianchi is quite heavy but nothing has ever fit so closely.
Perhaps I'll look into a custom Scattante. I keep a bike or two at work and a few at home so that I always have something to ride regardless. It would be nice to have something that I like even better than my Bianchi as an alternate.
ps. It's interetsing that nobody as suggested titanium. I found them a bit too stiff but I thought I was the only one who wasn't enthralled with the "magic metal".
