I personally don't own a kevlar canoe. But have been on a few trips with friends who have brought their Kevlar canoes. They have all held up find, but there owners also take extreamly good care of them due to there cost. I would be wary of a rental kevlar canoe as with all rental items they are generally beat on. Is it possible to check out the boat before the trip? This would be a good way to judge the condition of the rental boat.
Alot also depends on where you are taking it. I would have no worries taking one out on lakes or large rivers, but might have some worries on small rivers where the water level might be low, or the possiblility of white water.
Paddling aluminum or fiberglass canoes might not be quite as easy but they are really tough and easy to fix. Check out the link below of my new boat that I found on the side of the road. Its amazing what a can of fiberglass repair can do.
