off the line from a standing start. The 9-5 is better than the older 9000 turbo off the line, almost anything can beat my 5-speed 9000 Aero off a stop light :-( but that's another thread.
For time to distance sprint from a dead stop, the 330i has the advantage.
You really have to drive both to appreciate and understand the different characters between these two cars.
You need to decide what is important to you, a more useful interior and generous trunk space with good performance (9-5 Aero) versus a smaller car but is the benchmark for a sports sedan (BMW 3-Series). Also, do you need FWD for winter driving etc...
Let's not confuse the BMW image with BMW mechanicals. As much as Saab owners want to downplay the BMW mechanical advantage, there is no question that on a nice stretch of non-snow covered road (wide opened or twisty), BMW has the edge.
Now to give my slant toward Hond/Acura....hey how about that new Acura TL :-P.
