Your mom's adage doesn't apply here because the article reflects a lazy and inaccurate factual analysis, not just the reporter's personal opinion. Putting aside the fact that I own a Saab, it is entirely unprofessional (at best) for a reporter to pass off his own uninformed opinions as fact, especially when he is in a unique position to influence others not to buy the product and thus to destroy the obs and lives of thousands of people who depend on the maintenance and growth of the brand.
What's the difference between this author and Jason Blair (except that he can create more damage)?
If I were the editor, I'd fire him.
