Detroit Insider Gets it Wrong Posted by Ian Glenday [Email] (#95) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Ian Glenday) on Tue, 19 Aug 2003 13:38:10 In Reply to: Saab article in today's Detroit News, nypb, Tue, 19 Aug 2003 12:39:33 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Here is what I commented upon at their website:
"Mr. Lienert rants a lot but his facts are wrong. The new Saab 9-3 Sport Sedan is not Opel based. It does share the Epsolon platform which Saab engineers helped develop. Most reviews of the 9-3 Sport Sedan have given it high marks for its drivability. To compare how it drives to a Buick, Saturn or even an Opel does not do it justice. I am one of the long term Saab owners he mentioned. I am with the other group that believes that without GM ownership, the Saab marque would have disappeared. The reasons for the 9-2 being a Subaru based product and the 9-7 being a Chevy based product is primarily driven by lack of production capability in Sweden, Krona / Dollar echange rate and need to downsize the GM European opertion. News that a new vehicle will be introduced at the Frankfurt Show next month bodes well for Saab as well as far as I am concerned. Ask yourself, why is GM still supporting one of its units that is inceasing in sales as the rest of its car divisions fall behind? Perhaps this Detroit Insider needs to get out a bit and find out what is really going on."
