The house I'm hoping to close on next month has electric heat (baseboards) and strictly solar powered hot water. There are no electrical connections whatsoever to the 65 gallon hot water tank. I do believe water runs through the panels because the seller had to repair a leak one time from the panels (explained the water stain on the ceiling in one of the rooms next to where the water tank is) When you look in the closet where all this stuff is located, you can see the area where the electric water heater used to be, and I'd imagine if the solar panels aren't all they're cracked up to be (I'm always cold & LOVE long hot showers...) I'm sure it'll be easy enough to yank all that stuff out & go back to electric hot water. We believe the radient heat in the floors is serviced off the solar panels as well.
Still no luck on finding a solar panel "person" in my area, but I like the plumber suggestion. Maybe I'll call some plumbers & see what they say.
