I brought my '00 9-5 Aero sedan to the dealer yesterday and I got a Saturn Ion 1 as a loaner. Why don't they keep a few old 9-3s or 900s as loaner cars here in Canada? My girlfriend and I were laughing pretty hard for the first few miles driving the car...
Back to the Ion, I agree with most of your comments and I must say that ping-pong paddle comment made me laugh pretty hard. The car drives nice overall (nothing sporty here), but the general interior feel made me sick. I must say this must be the ugliest steering wheel design I have ever seen. My grandma's '82 Toyota Tercel had a nicer wheel! I guess for the price, it's quite a bargain, considering the fact that you get a very decent cargo space. But I'd choose the Echo's quality over the Ion's interior/cargo space.
Anyway I'm now looking at the clock waiting for the Aero to be ready... I'm already feeling weird thinking that I'll need to drive the Saturn a few miles back to the dealer... ;-)
