The Saab convertible is an engineering marvel - as well-insulated a soft top as exists on the market, which stores automatically, and still permits decent trunk access while the top is stored. A hardtop convertible, as has been noted, is only workable in a two seater - and on top of that, once the top is stored there's virtually no trunk room.
When I was in the market for a convertible, four seats was a requirement, as we've got a small child and there had to be a place for the carseat. Now, I can drop the top when I'm tooling around without the munchkin in tow and still be ready to pick her up at daycare with minimal hassle.
