Had an 88 Audi 4000 5 cyl. -- that car was a champ. No turbo in that one though. Some of the power features stopped working after the warranty was out and the door handles would get stuck all the time. The speedo died for a while too, but came back to life. Car also rusted a bit despite good care. The muffler hangers would go for about 5K miles until they needed replacement -- that was the strangest thing. Nothing really went wrong with the car and we sold it for $1500 in 1994 with 160K miles on it. Very easy to work on.
Overall my old audi was much better than my 2001 allroad, but just like the allroad, most of my issues were electrical in nature. Engine was a tank. The Audi 80s and 90s were nice cars, but a bit bland and underpowered in my opinion. After the audi I bought a few VWs since it was essentially the same technology, just cheaper. Then I bought a Saab...and another...and another...
