No flames coming from me--I completely agree. I piloted my 89 Saab 900 through many winters up in the Sierras mostly around the Tahoe area...and while the Saab was better than most, the Audi A4 Quattro simply blows it away in the 2 winters I've had the Quattro. Even when chains were on the Saab. And chains of course slow you down literally both for when you are drving and when you have to constantly install and remove them--and freeze your fingers in the process.
And add BMW, Mercedes, and VW to the Audis, Volvos, Subarus and the SUVs that you mentioned as vehicles that have beaten Saab to the AWD/4WD game...although Audi and Subaru's AWD systems are vastly superior to the others (hopefully Saab when they finally get their act together go with something similar...and yes the 9-2 is a very good sign with its Subaru underpinnings). Very disappointing to see Saab fall behind virtually all their competitors in the AWD/4WD technology, and hence the safety, performance, and flexibility/functionality areas. A serious competitive disadvantage.
