OT: your thoughts on the Steve Bartman incident?

...the fan who tried to catch the foul ball in left field in game 6 of the NLCS.
I'll start things off by saying that this guy is being blamed for the Cubs' failure to get in to the World Series, but the real issue is that the Cubs lost three in a row. The Marlins pulled off the improbable by coming back from such a deficit. One of the commentators on Fox last night said that in game 5, with the Cubs leading 3 games to 1, they went into that game playing as if they could stand to lose one.
I really wanted to see the Cubs in the series, but they really imploded. The Marlins also did great at bat, hitting pitches on the corners for singles instead of swinging for the fences all the time.
Regarding Steve Bartman, the latest news report suggests that he's blaming himself. That ball was clearly in the stands. Therefore, his actions did not constitute interference. Interference occurs when a fan reaches into the field of play. The fact that other Cubs fans are being so hard on him really lessens my respect for them.
I'll get down off my soapbox now. Other thoughts?
