...to my college!!!
I walked into the Industrial Design building an hour ago to see a sleek shaped car underneath a car cover which was embroidered "Pagani", the cover barely exposed the wheels and the front lip spoiler made completely of carbon fiber. I almost fell over. At first I was sure the car was just a concept car with no engine, which is still cool, but I didn't think there was any way it could be the real deal. The car was also behind caution tape, but the tape is within 1 foot of the car, so you can get very close to it. Then, the driver who delivered the car today, lifted off the cover, inch by inch, to show a small group of us the beautiful silver car, for a mere minute or less, then covered it back up. I was speechless, every single aspect of the car was screaming outloud. Then I realized that car wasn't just here, it was here for a reason, and we were informed in class what's going to be happening in the next few days here.
Horacio Pagani is going to have a large meeting this Thursday at a local theatre discussing his 450HP Zonda C 12 S, his company (Modena Designs), how he became a Gran Turismo car designer. Horacio worked with Lamborghini, Renault, and Berman as a designer. He also worked for race competition teams of Dallara, Aprilia, Lamborghini, and Ferrari. The meeting will be long (the good kind of long), but probably just a general overview without too many questions because the size of the crowd. He also created the first sports car who's frame was constructed entirely of composite materials.
Thursday morning, a select few students, mostly seniors, will be able to attend a session on the Hutchinson island track in South Carolina (10 minutes from Savannah, GA) to watch the Zonda compete against a Diablo SE (which he also helped design), the EXO Spyder (a concept car built by my college, school, the Savannah College of Art and Design), and another car that was announced too quickly for me to hear. I will be there, and I have over 400 megs on my digital camera waiting to be filled up.
Also, on Friday morning he will be holding a very small meeting in one of the classrooms here in the Industrial Design building. And again, a very small group of students out of all the other Industrial Design students will be selected to be there. My professor was asked to select the group of students to attend and he chose my class, and a few others, so it will be Horacio Pagani, his Zonda C 12 S next to him, and 30 students (myself included) in a small class room, and we're able to ask as many questions as we want. Fortunatly the head of our department can speak fluent Italian, so he can translate everything Horacio is saying/being asked.
Sorry for the rambling, but I figure if you've read this far you're probably interested in the whole thing. This has probably got to be the pinnacle so far in my life as far as automotive excitement goes. Like I said, I will be taking many pictures and I will post them on saabpics as soon as I take them.
