Both Linksys and Netgear make viable options. It was about $150 for a wireless PCMCIA card and a WAP (wireless access point) that you just plug into an ethernet hub.
Buy from someone that accepts returns in case you find out that the range is too far or something in your building interferes.
I think my stuff is netgear and it works great at home. I can sit in my recliner with laptop and do anything I can sitting at my hardwired desktop.
