In the 6 years I owned my Acura I literally only had oil changes @ 24.95 a pop to pay for...oh...and a set of tires around 30K miles @ $400, and a complete brake job @ $300. In one month of owning my 'new' Saab I've already spent $1300 between an alternator, headlight burnout, serpentine belt, pulley, leaky gasket...
Secondly to everyone suggesting the DIY approach - not everyone has the space to DIY...so drop that solution folks. If you expect me to go out onto a busy street under 3 feet of snow at temperatures below freezing to change an alternator then you need to seek counseling.
Besides, the alternator was 'frozen' onto the bolt and required the mechanic to go out and purchase a specialized tool to free it.
I do love driving my Saab and that's why I bought it. The driving experience is far superior than the Acura I left behind despite the vastly greater ownership costs.
