I received a Ticket in a city in NY - Buffalo, which is one of those few cities in NY that do not 'plea-bargain.'
The Officer wrote Insurance information on the ticket wrong (identified that the car was insured by another individual - it has been under my name since day 1). When I brought this up to the 'judge,' he simply replied with a, "Look at how many spaces there are to fill out on this ticket. Sometimes information is incorrect." Of course, maybe the speed was marked down as incorrect?! But he had no sympathy.
This was all after the cop decided to oversleep and arrived in plain clothes. He had clearly just gotten out of bed. Yet, he was 'right on time' since the 'judge' indicated that if the officer did not show by X, then the cases would be dismissed. X was a minute or two away. 8oC The cop was without radar, had not prepared - no notes or anything; took a minute to look at the ticket to 'refresh' his memory, as per the Judge's suggestion.
I believe he was in the Housing Authority division, so I questioned his ability to judge my speed, which the 'Judge' shrugged off. That on top of the fact that when he pulled me over, I was cordial, did everything he asked, indicated I was not in a hurry and coming from a 'Birthday meal,' and answered every question except for I was going X mph. When he came back with the ticket, he replied with an, "All you had to do was tell me how fast you were going, and we could have avoided the ticket. Besides, I have better things to do." Well, (humbly) why did you bother to pull me over in the first place?! hohum
Seeing I have been let off more times than I probably should, I do not scream, rant or rave anymore. Just thought I would share my long, rambly story. Funny, I now drive slower after purchasing a much faster car. Darn age, and I am not that old! But it is definately more fun to drive around in it than that old Eclipse, or the old(er) Dodge Daytona I had years ago.
