I think the days of brand and company loyalty are deminishing with the generations gone by. Boomers were much more loyal to their company and to their goods. Moms and Dads of that era rarely stepped out of their realm to try something new, partly felt safe, partly felt loyal. People stayed with their companies longer. The days of staying with the same company for your entire work life are long gone. Gen Xer's are more informed, smarter, and more restless but that comes with a price. The informed consumer is a new thing within the past 30 years, and I'm sure there are upsides of that thinking and downsides as well. As for cars, putting enthisiasts aside, I think brand loyalty has greatly deminished. The upsides of that is it poses a good side in that companies need to work harder to make their product great and not just rely on loyalty, the downside is a swaying economical status for every company. I think saab realizes this with its' latest idea to attract a new crowd. Enthusiasts don't keep a company running, the general public does. A good product that can attract the multitudes. But a followup product that can attract the next multitude is just as important. But then again, who am I to say, I work in a brain Injury Rehabilitation program where safety, or lack there of, directly affects the outcome. Interestingly enough, in 13 years of Brain Injury Rehabs, I have NEVER treated one person who incurred their accident driving a Saab and I make it a point of asking what car they were in, which doesn't mean it hasn't happend, but to me it means lower possibility. A company that balences safety and performance is good with me. As an avid Mountain Biker, one of the most expensive peices of equipment in my gear is my helmet. I bike and drive enthusiastically, finding the edge in both experiences. I like to wrap myself with the best protection. I choose Saab. So what does this have to do with the original subject line?...well, I'm not sure, I guess just random thoughts.
