Monday morning. 6 am. -16C. Blowing snow at 2 cm per hour. Get into 2003 9-3 SS and turn key. Nothing. Just a few small clicks.
9 am Push car out into driveway. Because of slippery surfaces, can't get in and brake till car is over sidewalk.
9:15 am Use wife's '97 900S to boost mine. Battery so dead it won't boost.
9:16 am Wife's '97 900S idler pulley self destructs. Molten plastic welds to belt.
9:17 am 2 dead Saabs in driveway, one blocking the sidewalk plow. Beg to not get a ticket.
9:30 Call Daab dealer. Idelr in stock. Just have to get there.
7 pm Roadside assistance gets here. Boosts car which has been on a charger since 10am
7:30 pmArrive at Saab dealer.
8:30 pm dealer pronounces car absolutely fine. Battery is perfect as is everything else.
9:30 pm Now -18C, still blowing snow. Replace idler pulley on '97. Belt looks passable.
10:00 pm Can't get tensioner to turn. Spray with WS40 and go to bed.
Tuesday
8:30 am -17C, blowing snow. Use 1/2 socket extension. Break it, but no tensioner movement.
9:00 Use 1/2 rod from basement. Break the collar on the tensioner. Fall and bruise hip.
6 pm Tow truck arrives. '97 goes to dealer on a flat bead.
Wednesday
9 am Dealer pronounces tensioner rusted and seized. Replaces.
10 am car ready.
Total cost C$500, a bruised hip, 3 frozen fingers, Damaged pride and quite a ribbing from the folks at work.
