For initial boot or for reloading the O/S without reformating, you are both correct. My issue is reformatting the drive PRIOR to what will become an initial boot.
Ome of my previous attempts to correct the random shut-down problem was to reload the O/S over top of itself on the drive. The process is just as you described, but it didn't solve my problem. That is why I am now doing a reformat so I can do a "clean reinstall".
