I just want to share the incredible ride i took in my 2000 aero this weekend.
I live in Southern Maine and went ice fishing on Moosehead Lake in the great northern woods of Maine. Once you get off the interstate you have an 1 1/2 hour trip through small towns 10-25 miles apart with some nicely paved roads with a posted speed of 55mph. This was the perfect time for this car on this road since the frost heaves have not reared their ugly heads YET. The hills are at time very long with a 1-3 mile sight in front of you. I was able to get the car in the high 90 to 100 mph numerous time, with a grin from ear to ear, but the last 11 miles were the best. My only regret is i did not have my digitial camera to shoot a photo to include in this story.
The last 11 miles was down a some what plowed snow & ice covered access road. My fishing buddy drove there 4 wheel drive trucks into camp and me they would pick me up at the end of the road, i assured them i could make it with the aero. The sun was shining the temp as around 10F and the 'winter mode' was engaged. The car only stopped once. One hill took me 3 times but it was worth every minute. The tires never slipped the TCS only worked on the 1 big hill, beside that it was pure SAAB driving pleasure. All i could think about was that this road trip is why the Swedes build car like they do.
I am not one to use the word awesome, but that's the only word that keeps coming to mind, it was awesome.
When we were packing to leave Sunday morning with a temp (without the wind chill) of -26f the aero started like it always done, we even used it to jump start a 2004 f150 truck.
Thanks for reading, I had to tell my story to someone who could understand my emotions for this car and that trip. All effert to share with the wife feel on deaf ears.
