For the average consumer, I'd say the 9-5 with snow tires is a top winter FWD car, followed by a 9-3.
For me or experienced enthusiast, I prefer my 88 900T with studded haks. I don't want ABS, which is not optional on the 9-5. I don't want traction control, I prefer about 90% traction, and 10% performance art when accelerating. Traction control provides conservative acceleration. I like the 88's rear e-brakes and lightweight e-brake handle for quick cornering. 15" tires are cheap and work well for winter use. The cars are cheap compared to new Saabs and are safer than the majority of cars on the road. These two factors ease my mind in case the car goes off the road or someone slides into me.
I have never slid off the street or roads due to snow traction problems while having studded now tires on. I have to work regardless of the weather or temperature or snow and this combination gets me around.
Heated rear window is nice. Windshields for the classic are cheap compared to most cars, especially "cab forward" cars. I also have room in the back for a big plastic shovel and any other winter items.
