first of all, an auto box applies power much smoother than a stick, thus getting better traction. Those who think they have more control w/ a stick are wrong, control is a function of traction and traction depends on good snow tires. Some think downshifting is better w/ stick, but to slow a car in slippery conditions use the anti-lock brakes - all 4 wheels slowing you instead of the 2 you need to steer the car with. An auto box 9k w/ antilock brakes is an excellent winter beater.
