I spent a little bit of time on the net and found http://www.cruiseamerica.com, where you can make reservations online. The deals they have with KOA's can be pretty good. KOA's are generally pretty nice but more expensive than no-name RV sites. I'd recommend KOA to the first timers for their well advertised and pretty generalized, no-surprise features.
The RV experience was quite enjoyeable. I got an advice that taking a car can make moving around much easier, but we decided not to and it wasn't too bad because we knew exactly what kind of trips we were gonna be making. And, we had most of the groceries done before we left. Going to groceries in your RV can be a quite cumbersome job.
You'll have to plan everything down to the details when scheduling with an RV. When and where to park, load and unload, etc..Think about the possibility of blowing up the pipes when traveling in cold areas.
Also, when you go to rent the RV, check Every Single function and condition of the RV very carefully and have a clear agreement on that. We need to use the heater inside the driving area only at the end of our trip, and found it didn't work. Due to tight scheduling, reporting to the RV company for repair was not feasible. When we brought it back we had to pay for it. Also, you pay for your generator useage by hour.
Hooking up the connections at the RV site was straight forward. No need to worry about. Take some time to read the instruction carefully when you are renting. Good luck and enjoy planning for your trip!
