and it is kinda fun. Me, wife, 2 girls (about 10 and 5 at the time) and dog. Went to Maine for a week.
We rented from a local rental place, so can't recommend a company. However some stuff to know includes:
Be sure you get a good understanding of how everything works. You are your own when stuff goes wrong and can be liable for some things. Be especially sure you know how the toilet works and how to pump it out. It is not necessarily obvious for pump out.
Bring some tools, flares, etc.
Get biodegrdable toilet paper or you can plug up the system.
Get ready for close living quarters unless you rent a big one.
Gas mileage sucks--10 mpg on a good day.
The downside for us was that we were mostly at one camp site and weren't allowed to tow a car, so when you go to leave you take your house with you. OTOH, when we went to the beach, we had our own bathroom and and kitchen with us.
For your trip it could be fun. It is a different way to travel and if you stay in RV parks/campgrounds they have pools, laundrys, etc.
I'd do it again, but would want to tow a car.
Oh..have several 12 to 18-inch lengths of 2x10 or 2x12. Campsites aren't always level and you're a lot happier at night if the camper is level. You wind up driving a wheel or wheels up onto the wood to level it all out.
Good luck.
