We did some ice biking. Most of us were on mountain bikes but two folks had single speeds. They actually did pretty well too. I have no idea how their bikes stayed so clean and shiny. All of us had studded bike tires however. Nokians rule there too.
One funny thing is that I get a hard time for having such an old mountain bike. I think they'll stop giving me a hard time after watching me throw it. We were trying to ride a large wet frozen stream which was also at a 25degree angle. I ended up stuck in the middle on a rock. Where the Benny Hill theme when you need it I wondered... I had to throw the bike to the shore bank and jump back to shore on the protruding rocks.
One of the guys there just joined the Saab world but doesn't post here. When he first started biking, he borrowed an old crappy bike and kicked all of our behinds the first day out. He how has a Bianchi road bike and quite a few mountain bikes and races off road often.
