Yep, that's what my grandparents would say.
More commonly amongst my generation, speeding is OK as long as you don't get caught and don't endanger people or yourself. It's that way with my parents generation too (the younger baby boomers), but they won't admit it for fear of handing down bad habits.
When that happens, things can very easily start looking hypocritical - "it's horrible to see people fly by here", or "this town needs more traffic patrolling [as long as they don't get me]". Or traffic patrol starts reforming people and the complainers now are dangerously tailgating instead of speeding.
I don't mean to be hard on that generation, but I am just expressing some observations.
