How about placing the responsibility where it belongs, with the driver of the vehicle? So, if they're not in an SUV those tragedies would not have occurred? If we place those same drivers in cars or, God forbid, mini-vans, then all is right with the driving world? Why didn't we think of that sooner!
It would be interesting to see the results of credible research that shows how many SUVS are involved in accidents or acts of stupidity cited above versus accidents involving cars. Please post the other serious accidents and vehicular homicides listed in your respective media outlets that involved just cars.
For the record, I have never, nor do I currently, own an SUV. And I have far more problems with the soccer Moms and P-whipped Dads who have absolutely no clue of what's going on around them on the highway as they commit a variety of dangerous acts with a mini-van full of un-seatbelted kids. They must still believe they're in their family room.
Gas mileage? Please. Even Honda tried to "improve" their mileage for CAFE standards how? By using 5W-20 oil. If you think they and Detroit did that because it's a better oil, let us know how the view is from Mars.
