I have a Viggen and it's a great car, but certainly not for everyone. It has a very stiff suspension so the ride can be downright punishing on rough roads. The 9-3 hatch chassis is pretty old and with the power that is put to the front wheels things can be a little squirrelly if you really punch it.

I've never driven an Aero but from everything I've heard and read it's not quite as fast as a Viggen (due to a bit of extra weight) but as most 9-5's is much more refined in ride quality and handling, as it should be since it's a much newer model than the 9-3 Viggen. The Viggen is also available in a convertible so if that's of interest to you you should look at that.

You should drive both of them and see what you like. As someone else said if you don't want manual then the 9-5 Aero is the only way to go since the Viggen only comes in 5-speed. If you want convertible then the Viggen is the only one that offers that.

I assume you are looking to buy used since that's the only way you'll get a Viggen and unless money is no object, you'll save a ton buying a SAAB used as long as you get it properly checked out beforehand. If you are also considering new I would even consider the 2004 9-3SS Aero as it probably offers the best handling of all 3, but the 9-5 Aero is probably, IMHO, the nicest car SAAB is selling these days.
