When my wife and I met in 1975, she had a Camaro Z28 and I had a HIGHLY modified VW Rabbit. We had a couple of kids right away and found ourselves looking for something more "sensible." We test drove a Volvo 240 wagon and while it was no doubt a good car, we looked at each other during the test ride with the same "We can't do this" look on our faces. We went to the Saab dealer and looked at a 4door 900 base, roll-up windows, no radio, you know, "sensible." While we were making the deal, my wife diverts her attention to the service area where they were prepping a new black 900 Turbo, burgandy interior, etc, etc. She says, "OOOOH....look at that", and before you know it she's all over it. Well, that car is still going strong today, the property of my son who's attending law school. And he's fanatical regarding it's car and maintainence. Getting back to the orginal post, the Saab provided us with speed, comfort, the best ergonomics of any car I've ever driven, safety, and the utility of a station wagon when we need it. Just a quick note..... that day in the Saab showroom when I pointed out to my wife that we orginally had decided on a four-door Saab due to soccer practice, carpooling with kids, etc and that the four door entry would be easier and more convenient, she said, Screw 'em, they're kids, let 'em climb back there....I like the 2-door better."
