My 2 cents:
Don't live at home if you don't have to. Being away at school is 1/2 of the learning experiance. Plus you get to have a little fun.
Private/Public
My wife went to one of the premier Private schools in MA (Babson) She has done well, real well. In my opinion she would have done just as well if she went to a state school such as UMASS.
I on the other hand went to a bottom of the barrel State School (North Adams State) and majored in Business. I have done well,no better or no worse than if I spent (or my parents spent) the 30k plus to go to a private school.
Bottom Line-
We both are happy with our careers, our salaries, and or educations. I came out of school with zero debt, she came out with a ton of debt. She was also the 4.0, good Sat's, and all the sports/student gov't schools look for and she was not given a tone of finacial aid.
The college experiance is what you make it, you will also get out of it what you put into it.
