Well, not more powerful in *absolute* terms, but relative to the competition at the time, the early 9000 models blew them away. Unfortunately the 9-5, instead of being larger than the 9000 (inside), was incrementally smaller. It still was (and continues to be) more commodeous than the BMW 5 series, but doesn't match its opulance.
Anyway, to second dcjayhawk, I too agree.
