Tips for interviewing for promotion? (long)

I just learned a position I have been working toward for more than a year just opened up at work. It is a supervising cashier position, and would bump me up to full-time (I currently work about 30 hours a week and receive benefits). Here are the preparations I have taken:
-Prepared a 6-page packet including a mini-resume outlining my strengths (particularly in cashiering), a copy of my most recent performance review noting "exceeds standards" performance particularly int he areas of efficiency and teamwork, and a copy of a "goal development plan" filed last summer outlining the steps I should take (and have since taken) to prepare for promotion to cash lead.
-Expecting everyone else to show up in regular work clothes, I have prepared my best french-cuffed shirt, shiny shoes, and best tie. I also plan to get a haircut before the interview. I have also been wearing my best work clothes since finding out about the opening.
-I have networked my brains out with every manager I have seen since, as well as the current cash lead. I have made sure they know how enthusiastic I am about this job, and that the hours will be perfect for me (they want someone to work closing shifts, and that's already almost all I work).
My biggest worry is my boss. He is a good guy with a big heart, but he has been known to make irrational decisions (like promoting somebody just because they need the money). My main question is: what can I do to control the unpredictable force that is the boss? I will stop at nothing not to let this promotion slip away. Any advice? Anything and everything will be appreciated.
Thanks, wish me luck and keep those fingers crossed on Monday. I will post the outcome.
-Brandon
