Ken, I think you've got me trumped on exclusivity - I see far more 9000 Aeros around here than 9000 CSETs!
As for my answers... I cannot give you only three things that make a Saab for me - what I will give are six sets of characteristics that seem to contradict each other, but all of which my Aero displays in spades!
1. Performance vs Fuel Economy - This one explains itself. You all know how much power an Aero makes, but if you keep your foot out of it, you'll match today's Japanese econo-boxes! What REALLY impresses me is, even though I have a prodigiously heavy right foot (I believe it's made of bismuth... ask Ken...), I still get very reasonable fuel economy, since I don't need to use much throttle to achieve the performance I typically desire.
2. Comfort/ride vs Handling - I'm told they softened up the Aero's suspension in 1994. The '93 feels perfect. I never find the ride uncomfortable, and while it'll never match a pure sports car, the car really does handle well, for what it is - a big, heavy, front wheel drive luxo/sport cruiser. The handling is particularly impresive at autobahn speeds *grin*. The car barely rolls or wallows, but it doesn't make your teeth chatter. And those seats! Perfection!
3. Exclusivity vs Cost of maintenance - I quite like the Porsche 928. I'd say it's on a similar level of exclusivity as the Aero (based purely on the fact that you really don't see too many of either of them - perhaps the Porsche is a bit more exclusive, especially given original purchase price). However, considering I use my Aero as a daily driver sometimes racking up as many as 500kms in a day (when I'm not on an extended road trip!), i'd say it holds up rather well. The 928's reputation preceeds it.
Oh, and SAFETY!
A Saab I have not driven and would like to drive is the '93 C900 Commemorative Edition.
