I am using 205/55-16 tires on a 1998 900SET..... The car came orginally with 205/50-16 tires. 205/55-16 tires are more readily available in the performance all-season type tire that I desire here in the Pacific Northwest.
The NG900 and 9-3 do not seem to have any whell well clearance problems with the change from 205/50-16 to 205/55-16. If fact, some of the 2001-2002 9-3 were fitted with 205/55-16 tires from the factory.
205/50-16 have a diameter of 24.07".
205/55-16 have a diameter of 24.88", or an increase of 3.4%.
Many car speedometers read 2-5% off from the factory. In my car, with the 205/55-16 tires, the speedometer/odometer reads 3% higher than the actual road speed/mileage. This means that over a measured 10 mile distant, the odometer will actual indicate 9.7 miles; and when the speedometer reads 60 MPH the actual car speed will be 62 MPH.
