900 or 9000?

I'm starting to look for another Saab and have been cruising the classifieds here.
I've had two mid 80s 900s before; both were wonderful - great in snow, practical, ran wonderfully, etc. I loved them. I also had a 1986 9000T which drove wonderfully but was so plagued with little problems I finally sold it at a loss.
I still like the looks and size of the 9000s though - my mechanic has a client who brings his in regularly, almost 300K miles and still a daily driver. So I don't want to necessarily be turned off because of my single experience...
Are there any particular years/models of either car to avoid, or look for? Significant differences between 900s & 9000s you can tell me about? Basically I'm trying to decide between the two. I'm not planning on spending more than about $3000, so I'm looking at 12-15 year old cars. It won't be a daily driver, more a knock-about car and something I can drive confidently on bad winter roads (the Viggen stays home when it's snowy & icy out.)
Thanks!
