When I was in Germany, I saw all sorts of vehicles mentioned by others responding to this post. One day, I could see a large full size American Pickup. Not a standard 1/2 ton, but the big 3/4 or 1 ton size. I was courious, so I sped up to catch up to it. I was quite suprised to see VW badges on it. This thing was exactly the same size as say a Ford F-350. VW makes so many cool utility trucks, I think the people at VW who make the decision of what vehicles to import to the States should be replaced. They are very stupid if they think these vehicles wouldn't sell over here. I just heard that The Smartcar is being imported, so the traditional U.S. safety arguments can be forgotten. I think if you slap an airbag on it, you can sell it in the U.S.!
