He was trying to sell the bike for $500 with an old Judy fork, & just kinda threw out, "I've got the old, rigid fork somewhere in the garage. You can have that too, if you want it." Aughhhh!
I did some checking around & determined the UNemotional value of a 10 yr-old mtn bike, with both forks, to be around $250. (Considering things like material fatigue, component quality, appearance/condition, etc.) I told him my research info, & that I had no interest in the Judy. But, it had some emotional value to me, & I'd be willing to pay $300 with as much original stuff as he still had.
He said, "No way." I said, "I understand. Call me if anything changes." Maybe a month later he called back, willing to sell.
Unfortunately, everything was over-tightened. That's why I'm rebuilding/replacing all the bearings. And the Ritchey crank's aluminum is yielded at the tapers, so I'm installing a new crank.
Now if only I had the time to work on it...
