Hey Mac-using graphics people, I'm in distress. There was this amazing book published by Peachpit Press called "How to Boss Your Fonts Around" that came out in 1998. Just about everything I know about font technology and font management comes from that book. Because I work in production at a publishing company, I'm expected to maintain a pretty high level of competence and expertise about such things. So it was a bad surprise to learn that this book is now out of print. The edition that I have isn't terribly useful to me anymore since it's geared to OS 7 and 8 and I'm now at X.3. For a variety of reasons I need badly to update my font technology knowledge base. So I was wondering if anyone has any advice for any other good, up-to-date books on the topic.
Specifically it's font management for OS X, generally it's just because I have to brush up on all the basics (TrueType vs. PostScript vs. Multiple Master; how to identify screen vs. printer fonts; etc.). Everything was set up and working perfectly on my old computer. Then my job went and got me a new one. The perils of upgrading!
