Folks are taught to buy late model used cars. The radio blares, "Beat new car depreciation, save 20%!" from the Budget rental return lot.
I've sold quite a few Certified Saabs, and Saturns for years before that, because people didn't ask how much a new one was. Few people shop that way. They decide they can afford a used or the decide they can afford a new one. Even if the new one is close to what they had in mind they won't allow themselves the extra budget or luxury.
A late model 2003 CPO Saab likely has more warranty time, not to mention 50,000 extra warranty miles, than a new Saab!
And once a CPO cars get's back to 2000 or 2001 it is substantially cheaper, only 50-60% of the new list price.
Even an older 2000-2001 Certified Saab when financed, compares very similarly to a brand new 2004 on a lease. That's a greater dilemma. I wish people would explore,20% cash down and $400-600 on a used 3 year old CPO Saab or 10% down and $400-600 (as low as $249) on a new one leased.
