The cabinets were custom from a little shop in Oakland, CA. The deal is this... The parts boxes said something like "Water House Cabinets". The wood is Canadian, and it was machined and flatpacked in China. Final fabrication is performed locally (Oakland, CA). They are solid maple doors and front faces, and plywood inside, back and shelf. All that has a nice thick maple veneer. There is no MDF anywhere in these cabs. The drawers and slides are high quality, too.
The beauty part, the whole set of cabinets + pulls set me back about $2800 including our 8.25% tax. Gotta love a mom & mom (while, not actually moms considering the alternate lifestyle) shop selling quality goods at very fair prices. We priced out many more inferior cabinets from $4500+tax up to about $10k. We were thinking of refacing ($2k for materials) or going with Ikea cabinets ($2400 & crap quality), but we're thrilled with what we ended up with.
I may end up doing the website for the cabinet shop. They started up a little over a year ago as they got fed up with shopping for their own kitchen. They met a distributor and got into the biz. The prices and quality are awesome. They have a low overhead shop and carry a selection of maybe 4-5 designs in 3-4 color/wood combos. Sounds like a limited selection, but they're all pretty tasteful from traditional to modern. That and I got my granite from them for $320/slab. I'm thrilled with the cabinet shop... Found 'em on Craigslist, if you can believe that.
Good luck finishing your kitchen!!!
