This is a head vs. heart issue. Logic says having a car, any kind of car let alone a Saab convertible, can turn into a big money pit in college, especially if you are only going to use it sparingly or on dates or parties, etc. Ahh, but then where is the fun in college without a cool car to flash? I remember those days when I 'wished' I had a nice car, but really 'didn't' need it. Against all 'motherly' advices, I went for it and bought a '82 Mazda RX7 for $2500, borrowed from student loan. Hey, what's life if you can't enjoy it?
Bottom line is, if you have means to afford it (parents, relatives, scholarships, (jokingly) rich boy friend, etc.) Go for it. But if you do, make sure you can afford not only the insurance, but gas, tickets, fees, and maintenance. Study hard, but party hard also. Good luck.
(Geez, I'm a bad influence... lol)
