Didn't you mention that the part and the car is out of warranty? So even if it was a defective part why should they warranty it? Warranties have terms and limits, they're not indefinite. It would seem to me that a manufacturer has no obligation to replace a defective part after the warranty expired, even if it *was* defective when the warranty was in effect.
I don't think that asshat hasn't heard you, it's just that IMO your outa' line and outa' warranty and 50-50 is quite remarkable offer for something that you caused by hitting something for an out of warranty item. That's why I liked working at Saturn, we could go outside of the square to handle difficult items.
But sometimes it's never enough. The only hope you had was dealer good will, the factory will flat reject such a warranty claim, no mercy, after "the drop dead date", and your reference to the service manager may or may not be supported by the general manager. As as I said, I think they did well by you.
