On most policies you can add full glass coverage for a very reasonable price - only a couple of bucks/six months. Call your agent and add it.

Things that can go wrong - as others have said, (1) the cops can pull you over, (2) you can have trouble seeing, and add much more than just a crack, and (3) the windshield is compromised physically - it could collapse at highways speeds (not likely, but who wants to take that chance), and could definately be more dangerous in a crash.

If I had a big piece of cracked glass in front of me, with 65 mph wind pushing on it, I'd get it fixed.
