Someone at work has a hyphenated last name. She wanted it that way, because anyone with this last name is supposed to be all related. So that she and her family wants to be 'recognized' by her relatives whereever they are...
Korean custom is that wife kept their maiden name, but would use husband's name when called by Mrs.. So my wife would be called Mrs. Kim. But she decided to change her last name when we got married. She also changed her first name (from Korean first name to a English first name) while she was at it. So she now has a complete new identity, except she moved her Korean first name to middle name. I guess we could have been Lee-Kim or Kim-Lee... Now the question is do you put husband's name first or wife's name first?
Also, one of my Sunday school kid's name is G-Su. Her parents decided to use hyphenated first name.
Things we do to be unique. I guess that's one of the reason we drive Saabs. :) I had to tie this back to Saab somehow. LOL
