Only the very first 2 years had some problems with hidden cavities that started to leak coolant after some years of use. Otherwise that engine configuration has been bullet proof in both 4, 5 and 6 cylinder.

It was also an earlier all aluminum in the Volvos but that was a sad part of history, the PRV V6 engine.
