It's not from someone who is overseas, especially in Africa, where there seems to be quite a demand for Saads. It could be okay if you have called their US-based phone number and talked with them a bit. Then, yes, you have to wait for the check to clear. It'd not be responsible to let your car go until you really have payment. I've run counterfeit cashier's checks through the Wells Fargo system (I have a great relationship with my local branch) and it can take upto 10 BUSINESS days (two weekends too) for it to clear and the first case I read about these counterfeit checks, the teller insisted the folks had their money after 5 days but when the check came back on day 7 as counterfeit, the money was re-withdrawn from their account. Perhaps create a new account just for this transaction? If the buyer's communication skills (has trouble with English and, strangely enough, refers to God and blesses you frequently), you might tread carefully. Otherwise, yes, if you know who is buying the car, I would accept a cashier's check.
