Audi is richer, better looking VW brother, Saab is... Saab is a distant Swedish cousin of the GM family, virutally no relation. Audi is just a highline VW mostly. A Passat and an A4 have much in common, as do Phaeton and A8. Audi even dips into the lower VW range of transverse engine platforms with the TT and A3. A TT is often said to be the worlds most expensive Golf. Porsche is also allied with VW/Audi and the two have shared many cars, 914's, 924/944's and now the Touraeg/Cayenne SUV.
A Saab is entirely unique. 9-3SS' share some chassis parts with newer Malibus and the new Pontiac G6, and an engine block with a Saturn, but are otherwise built and finished entirely differently from them and their nearest European cousin, Opel. 9-5's don't share much with anybody 'cept the basic V6 architecture when Saab made 'em.
That's why Saab is so important to GM. It's GM's only toehold in the luxury European market.
No comment about the 9-2X.....
