Somewhere in 97-98 (don't know exactly) they introduced a new cylinder head bolt that in my eyes is far less in strenght than the old ones.
The left bolt in picture has been used since mid 85 up to somewhere in 97-98 and has been working good.
The middle bolt came out and superseeded the old style. In about 2002-2003 they came out with the bolt on the right and also a TSB mentioning problems with the middle bolt and that they had some problems with torque specs at the engine assembly plant.
The TSB only mention the
9-5 with engine B205/235 from M98-M01 up to VIN:13055567
The 9-3 is also mentioned under a similar bulletin 210-2401 ed:2 but with different VIN numbers M99-M01 with B205/235 up to VIN: 12055139 and 17018281.
We have talked about the head bolt problem from time to time on most boards, so by doing a search for head bolts or retorque you will find lots of information.
