To not babble, I first read of "lossless" technology such as FLAC and Apple here. I was just looking for recommendations/opinions on how to catalog my music collection going forward? I have visited FLAC, read a bit about Apple Lossless through iTunes, and also Monkey Audio, but wanted to hear some "real world" experiences.
Obviously digital for access on PC as well as use with media players. I have a RIO Sport S30S flash-based player with 64MB internal and a 256MB card (also just purchased a 512). Will also use on a RIO Cali 128 w/ 256. May purchase a HD based player, but flash is good for the active use it sees. Will eventually mate it up with the Saab, which is why I say considering a HD based player - maybe iPod, Rio or Sony. All being stored on this replacement/refurbished WD 120GB external drive I was sent.
Have iTunes, RealOne, Nero, Sony, and a few other CD/music programs at my disposal installed on the PC; mainly use Windows Media Player. Considering all options.
Thanks for listening and any responses.

And now for the babble...
If anyone saw, my external WD HD crashed a month ago. On it was mainly media. I had put about 30 CDs or so there, but it was only a start on my collection. Originally, I ripped CDs to MP3s and WMAs at a high space, low compression setting, maybe 384, in hopes to not lose too much, but have it accessible to my RIO and 'puter w/o the use of the CDs. Lossless seems like the way to go, which is why I ask.
I originally thought of myself as an audiophile, but after reading more here, such as tube amps, etc., it appears I am only scratching the surface. I am probably around the high-end of a 2, on my scale (after research) of 1-5 with 1 being budget, 5 being expensive/unobtainable for most. But as someone has stated, if it sounds good to me...
Home, previous cars, and most gadgets are Sony (not ES), but I am starting to see them as overpriced and customer support is not the best. Besides, I am ready to move on. Okay, I'll stop...
Thanks for reading and any input.
