Yes, I read your post earlier and I agree with jc.
However, you might be able to fix things too--first you have to get rid of the half installed version of McAffee. One older utility I've found helpful for doing things like that (for free) was RegCleaner 4.2.
I checked the website JV16.org and the same people offer a free 30 day trial download on a program called RegSupreme, which I haven't tried.
But, and it's a big BUT, you can royally screw-up your computer when messing around in your registry. With either of those programs you can probably remove the remainder of the aborted McAffee un-install and then re-install. I'm very faaar from being an expert and was able to do similar un-installs sucessfully; you can do it manually too, but a Reg editing utility program makes things much easier and faster.
Another option you could try that might work is to get a lap-top to IDE hard drive adapter. Pull your laptop hard drive, plug it into another computer with virus scan software and an open IDE channel. (Make sure you don't try to boot from the laptop hard drive!) Boot the other computer, and then scan the laptop hard drive with your virus software. It might work or it might not depending what the problems are. The potential is there that the virus scan could make the drive un-bootable too.
Regardless, you want to back-up the files that you need to keep before doing much of anything.
