Ever since Time-Warner bought Turner and indirectly the Braves franchise it has slowly gone downhill. Still lots of talent there but it's just a gradual decline of the franchise. Then you look at the Yankees and you have an owner who just goes shopping for talent with a blank check every year, hiring the best players in the majors. Gee, why would you pull for the Yankees unless you live in NYC? Don't get me wrong - I LOVE NYC - I'm just over the pollution of baseball by a few very wealthy owners/teams. I think the NFL has a healthier long-term outlook because while there are teams that excel each year because of outstanding players, they do get beat every now and then and it's tough to both make it to the Superbowl and win it frequently. I haven't studied it that carefully but I'd bet this has something to do with the salary caps.
With baseball, I just can't help rooting against the Yankees. So, from this Braves fan, GO RED SOX.
